Unopened ”Super Mario” 35 years ago, successful bid for 73 million yen

The exhibited Super Mario Bros. is the American version of ”Famicom (Family Computer)” game console software.
It was sold at the auction on the 2nd for 660,000 dollars and about 73 million yen in Japanese yen.
According to the sponsored Heritage Auctions, it is the highest bid price for game software ever.
It seems that the reason for the high price was that the year of manufacture was old in addition to being unopened.
The exhibitor purchased it as a Christmas present in 1986, and then stayed in the desk drawer for 35 years until he found it this year.
