Proposed to add a day off to cyclists, councilor

A member of the German Bundestag’s ”Green Party” recently suggested that bicycle commuters should be on more days off each year because they are healthier and less absent, and asked the government to introduce the system.
ＣＮＮの取材に応じた同議員のシュテファン・ゲルブハール氏はオランダの研究やドイツの環境保護当局の調査を引用しながら、「統計では自転車を普段使う通勤者が病気になったり欠勤の回数は少ないことが示されている」と主張しました
”Statistics show that commuters who usually use bicycles get sick or are absent less often,” said Stephan Gerbhar, a member of the Diet who interviewed CNN, citing a Dutch study and a survey by the German environmental protection authorities.

He also points out that granting one more vacation day can be a factor in encouraging commuters to use bicycles instead of cars.
”It will also reduce road congestion and air pollution, benefiting not only cyclists but the entire region,” he said.
