Lava erupts from Mount Mayon, 13,000 residents evacuated Philippines

Mayon Volcano, an active volcano on the island of Luzon in the Philippines, has begun to erupt lava and gas on the 11th.
About 13,000 residents in the area have been urged to evacuate.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) has advised everyone within a 6-kilometre radius of Mount Mayon to evacuate, calling it a ”danger zone” for falling rocks, landslides and flying debris.

The alert level of Mount Mayon was raised to the third of five levels on the 8th.
Officials say 88% of residents in the danger zone have been evacuated and efforts are underway to evacuate the rest.
