As Russia’s invasion of Ukraine continued, the village in southern Spain changed its name to ”Ukraine” during Easter to show solidarity with Ukraine.
According to local media, this village of about 7,100 people changed the name of the village to ”Ukraine” during Easter to show solidarity with those involved in the Russian invasion.
”Spain Square” has changed to ”Mariupol Square”, and the street names have changed to Ukrainian place names such as ”Kiev” and ”Odesa”.
The village is calling for donations to support refugees from Ukraine and is planning to accept about 25 refugees.
Francisco Martinez, the mayor of the village, said, ”If you look at how we help Ukraine, the children of the village will grow up with a sense of solidarity.”
