The suspect was arrested but fired shots at two people, one of whom is in critical condition.
According to local media, a man broke into a bus at a bus terminal in the center of Rio de Janeiro on the afternoon of the 12th and took 17 people, including children and the elderly, hostage.
The man opened fire on two people and was taken to the hospital, one of whom is said to be in critical condition.
Special forces sealed off the area around the bus terminal and continued negotiations for the release of the hostages, but approximately three hours after the incident, the perpetrator was arrested and all hostages were released.
Police are investigating the man’s detailed motives.
