Sado City, Niigata Prefecture: Many firefly squids shine on the coast
ホタルイカは体の長さが5cmぐらいの光るイカです
Firefly squid is a glowing squid with a body length of about 5 cm.
They are usually in the sea at a depth of about 200m to 600m.
12日の夜、新潟県佐渡市の海岸でたくさんのホタルイカを見ることができました
On the night of the 12th, we were able to see many firefly squid on the coast of Sado City, Niigata Prefecture.
A firefly squid that came up from the deep sea to lay eggs and was unable to return was glowing blue on the shore.
ホタルイカを取りに来た男性は「入れ物がいっぱいになりました
A man who came to pick up firefly squid said, ``The container is full.
I think I was able to lose over 10kg.”
An aquarium staff member in Niigata City says, ``Firefly squids lay eggs until around April.
I think I’ll be able to see it again.”
