The U.S. Federal Reserve Board has decided to keep policy interest rates unchanged for the fifth consecutive meeting.

The Federal Reserve kept interest rates unchanged for five consecutive meetings as inflation remained high.
Regarding interest rate cuts, which will be a focus going forward, Chairman Powell said, ``If the economy expands as expected, it would be appropriate to lower interest rates at some point this year.’’
The latest policy rate outlook maintains the assumption that there will be three rate cuts in 2024.
In the market, there was a sense of security about the American economy as some predicted it would decline twice, and the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose more than 400 points on the New York stock market, closing at a new all-time high.
In addition, in the foreign exchange market, speculation about the Bank of Japan’s additional interest rate hike led to a movement to buy yen and sell dollars, and the yen exchange rate at one point reached the high 150 yen range per dollar.
