Expensive vegetables - carrots up 50% on a normal year

The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) checks the price of vegetables weekly.
Last week, the price of carrots rose by 50% compared to their usual price.
Because the weather was bad between March and May, vegetables did not grow leading to price rises, MAFF said.
農林水産省は「これから野菜が増えてきて、安くなると思います
MAFF thinks that they will become cheaper if, from now, the amount of vegetables increases.
However, if there is a very hot summer, there is a chance they will not grow as much, it said.
