JR West uses robots for workplace safety

JR西日本にしにほんは今月こんげつから、電車でんしゃの安全あんぜんのための仕事しごとにロボットを使つかいます

From this month on, JR West will use robots to increase trains’ safety.

このロボットは、JR西日本にしにほんが別べつの会社かいしゃと一緒いっしょに考かんがえて作つくりました

JR West has considered working with third-party companies to produce these robots.

人ひとのような形かたちで、40kgの物ものを持もつことができます

With bodies similar to a human’s, they can carry loads of 40kg.

線路せんろの周まわりの邪魔じゃまな木きの枝えだを切きったり、高たかい所ところの部品ぶひんを取とり替かえたりすることができます

They can cut tree branches blocking train lines, and swap parts in high places.

ロボットを動うごかす人ひとは、ゴーグルをかけると、ロボットのカメラの映像えいぞうを見みることができます

By using goggles, robot operators can view footage then by cameras installed on the robots.

人ひとが顔かおを右みぎや左ひだりに向むけると、ロボットも同おなじように動うごきます

When the operator moves their head left and right, the robot moves their head the same way.

動うごかす人ひとは、ロボットが持もった物ものの重おもさも感かんじることができます

The operator can also feel the weight of objects carried by the robot.

会社かいしゃはこのロボットで、人ひとがする仕事しごとを30%ぐらい少すくなくして、仕事しごと中ちゅうにけがをする事故じこもなくしたいと考かんがえています

With these robots, JR West hopes to reduce human labour by 30%, and eliminate workplace injuries.

このロボットは、JR西日本にしにほんが別べつの会社かいしゃと一緒いっしょに考かんがえて作つくりました

This robot was created by JR West in collaboration with another company.

人ひとのような形かたちで、40kgの物ものを持もつことができます

It has a human-like shape and can lift objects weighing 40 kg.

線路せんろの周まわりの邪魔じゃまな木きの枝えだを切きったり、高たかい所ところの部品ぶひんを取とり替かえたりすることができます

You can cut obstructive tree branches around the tracks and replace parts in high places.

ロボットを動うごかす人ひとは、ゴーグルをかけると、ロボットのカメラの映像えいぞうを見みることができます

When a person turns their head to the right or left, the robot moves in the same way.

人ひとが顔かおを右みぎや左ひだりに向むけると、ロボットも同おなじように動うごきます

The person moving the robot can also feel the weight of the object held by the robot.

The company hopes to use this robot to reduce the work done by humans by about 30% and eliminate accidents that result in injuries during work.
