A buddhist monk collects daikon radishes for ”Daikon Almsround”
Monks from a temple in Wajima City, Ishikawa prefecture collect daikon radishes and other vegetables for the ”Daikon Almsround” event.
Monks wearing bamboo hats depart at the sounding of a bell, and head towards neighborhood homes.
Once they arrive, the monks recite Buddhist scriptures. They receive thanks and donations of daikon and yuzu citrus.
Because of this, this year’s ”Daikon Almsround” was performed about 20 days later than usual.
Most of the radishes were small. There were fewer than 200, which is less than half of the usual amount.

One monk reminds us, ”Savor these vegetables, and think of the hard work that went into growing them.”
