A university building that won a prestigious British architecture award is set to be demolished less than 30 years after it was built, sparking criticism.

The Centenary Building was built for the University of Salford in northern England and was awarded the Stirling Prize by the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) in 1996.

This award is given to the best new building in the UK.

The University of Salford confirmed to CNN that the building is scheduled to be demolished after years of being unoccupied.
