Fukui Prefecture: Rice grown this year is more than 30% higher than usual years

Recently, Japan has been running out of rice.
This is due to an increase in the number of foreigners traveling and eating at restaurants.
福井県では、今年も「ハナエチゼン」という米ができました
In Fukui Prefecture, a rice called ``Hanaechizen’’ was produced again this year.
A supermarket in Fukui City sells 10kg of Hanaechizen for 4,780 yen.
Usually it’s around 3,500 yen, which is more than 30% higher.
This is because the prices at which supermarkets purchase products have increased.

A woman shopping there said, ``It’s expensive, but I always eat rice, so I wouldn’t be able to do without it.’’
JA福井県は「これから、今年できたほかの米も売り始めます
JA Fukui Prefecture says, ``From now on, we will start selling other rice grown this year.
Rice production will increase, but prices are likely to remain high until around March next year.”
