Referendum in Kansas, U.S. Continues to Recognize Abortion Rights

A referendum was held in the state of Kansas in the Midwest of the United States, and it was decided that the state constitution that recognized the right to abortion would continue to be recognized.
At least 12 states have banned or restricted abortion after the U.S. Supreme Court overturned previous rulings granting abortion rights.
Under these circumstances, a referendum was held in Kansas on the 2nd on whether to remove the provision in the state constitution that recognized the right to abortion up to the 22nd week of pregnancy.
As a result, more than 60% of the respondents said that ”the right to have an abortion should be recognized”, and abortions were still permitted.
With the focus on the abortion issue heading into the midterm elections in November, Kansas, which is said to have many conservatives, has gained attention as a result of recognizing the right to have an abortion.
