Hawaii: Japanese man arrested for possession of grenade while leaving the country

The grenade they were trying to bring in didn’t actually have the ability to explode, and the chemicals necessary for an explosion had been removed.
Airport security staff discovered it during an X-ray inspection and reported it.
The airport was temporarily closed for about an hour until passengers were evacuated from the terminal and the explosive ordnance disposal team confirmed it was safe.
The man was later released, but police are continuing to investigate.
