Doctors said the surgery was uneventful, Fawcett was spending time with his family, and he stopped taking medication to help his heart function a month later.
However, he had recently developed a rejection reaction to the transplanted heart.
This is the second case of heart transplantation from a pig; in January last year, a 57-year-old man at the University of Maryland died of heart failure two months after the surgery.
