Norway bans entry of Russians for ”tourist purposes”

In response to Russia’s continued invasion of Ukraine, the Nordic government has announced that it will ban Russian nationals from entering the country for tourist purposes.
On the 23rd, the Norwegian government announced that from the 29th of this month, Russians will be prohibited from entering the country for non-essential travel such as sightseeing and shopping.
Norway has stopped issuing visas for tourist purposes to Russians since spring 2022 in response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, but those with visas issued by Norway or other Schengen Area countries before that Russian nationals will no longer be able to enter Norway.
As exceptions, people visiting family in Norway or working in the Schengen area will be allowed to enter the country.
According to local media, the land border crossing in Storskog in northern Norway, which connects to Russia, was the last land border link between Russia and the Schengen area, allowing Russians to enter for non-essential purposes.
Currently, many Russians cross the border to the surrounding towns for sightseeing and shopping, but from now on they will no longer be able to enter the country for these non-essential purposes.
