First euthanasia in Peru: 47-year-old woman bedridden due to an incurable disease

The first woman to have the right to die in Peru, South America, recently met her end through euthanasia.
The family issued a statement on the 22nd.

His chronic, incurable disease, polymyositis, had progressed to the point where he was unable to speak or get out of bed.
He was on a ventilator and required 24-hour care.

Euthanasia is not legal in Peru, but Estrada sued for the right to die.
Almost four years later, in February 2021, the court ordered health authorities to respect Estrada’s decision to choose euthanasia.
It was the first time euthanasia had been allowed in the country’s judicial system.

Health authorities did not appeal, and the Supreme Court upheld the decision in July 2022.
At the time, Estrada’s lawyer welcomed the decision as a ”historic decision” and said, ”He is also very happy.”
