Study session to hear about the experiences of building a new town after the earthquake
On the night of the 12th, people from Ishikawa Prefecture, which suffered great damage from the earthquake, held an online meeting to hear from people from Miyagi Prefecture.
About 30 people gathered at the Wajima venue.
Higashimatsushima City, Miyagi Prefecture was severely damaged by the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011.
After the earthquake, Higashimatsushima City built a new town on a higher ground and everyone moved there.

Toru Ishigaki, an employee of Higashimatsushima City, talked about his experience building a new town.
Mr. Ishigaki said that he valued discussions with citizens and made plans.
石垣さんは「最初は、みんなの意見が違っていました
Ishigaki said, ``At first, everyone’s opinions were different.
However, the citizens came together with one opinion and conveyed it to the government office.
From there, the plan moved forward.”
