German museum employee fired for displaying his own work

A German man briefly realized his dream of having his work displayed in a famous museum.

However, the ambitious artist’s exploits got him in big trouble with his employer and then the police, and any hopes of a chance were dashed in just a few hours.

独どくタブロイド紙し「南みなみドイツ新聞しんぶん」や独どくミュンヘン警察けいさつによると、５１歳さいの展示技術者てんじぎじゅつしゃで自称じしょう「フリーランス芸術家げいじゅつか」は２月がつ２６日にち、ミュンヘンにあるピナコテーク・デア・モデルネ美術館びじゅつかんに自分じぶんの絵画かいがをこっそり持もち込こみ、展示室てんじしつの壁かべに飾かざった

According to the German tabloid Süddeutsche Zeitung and police in Munich, the 51-year-old exhibition technician and self-proclaimed ”freelance artist” secretly brought his paintings to the Pinakothek der Moderne in Munich on February 26. I brought it in and displayed it on the wall of the exhibition room.

Because the man worked at a museum, he was able to enter and exit the premises even outside of normal opening hours, and no one noticed that he had his paintings on display.

男おとこの６０センチ×１２０センチの絵えがどれくらいの時間じかん、壁かべに飾かざられていたかは不明ふめいだが、美術館びじゅつかんの広報担当者こうほうたんとうしゃはおそらく長時間ちょうじかんは飾かざられていなかっただろうと語かたっている

It’s unclear how long the man’s 60cm x 120cm painting was on the wall, but a museum spokesperson said it probably wasn’t hanging there for long.

Tine Nöhler told Sueddeutsche Zeitung Zeitung: ”Managers notice things like this right away,” adding that she does not know what the painting depicts.

CNN has reached out to the museum for comment but did not receive a response.

This incident came to the attention of the police.

Police told CNN that the man is being investigated on suspicion of criminal damage to property and could face a fine or up to two years in prison if convicted.

Drexler said: ``The painting was attached to the exhibition wall with two screws, which caused damage, and the Munich Criminal Investigation Department is currently investigating the damage caused by the drilled hole.’’ ``The total damage is estimated at approximately 100 euros (approximately 16,000 yen).’’

He told CNN that shortly after workers discovered the painting, the man sent an email to the museum saying, ”As a freelance artist, I put my painting on the wall.” He confessed to his actions.
