10 years since Sewol Ferry sinking, bereaved families demand investigation into cause South Korea

In the Sewol Ferry sinking accident that occurred in April 2014, 299 people died, including high school students on a school trip, and 5 people remain missing.
On the 16th of this month, which marks 10 years since the outbreak, memorial events were held across South Korea.
In the city of Ansan, near Seoul, where the students’ high school is located, the bereaved families expressed their wish to ``remember this without forgetting’’ and called on the government to investigate the cause of the accident.
At a Cabinet meeting on the 16th, President Yoon Seok-Yeol said, ``Ten years have passed, but the situation on that day is still vivid in my eyes.’’ ``I pray for the repose of the souls of the victims, and I once again extend my heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families.’’ ” he commented.
