Shinkansen seat covers turned into slippers Accelerating the upcycling movement

JR Tokai has started an initiative to recycle discarded Shinkansen seat covers into new products.
The material to be reused is the seat cover of the N700 series seats on the Tokaido Shinkansen, and since it is durable and does not show dirt, it can be reborn as slippers, coin purses, etc.
After being cut and sewn by hand at a factory in Yamagata Prefecture, it is expected to be sold online within the year.
About 1,200 kilograms of Tokaido Shinkansen seat covers are discarded every month, and JR Tokai wants to make them more familiar by reusing them as household goods.
All Nippon Airways is also expanding its upcycling efforts to add new value to things that should otherwise be thrown away, such as making seat covers for aircraft seats into slippers.
