England fans’ crusader outfits ’provocative’ FIFA Qatar World Cup

Ahead of the match, world football’s governing body FIFA called the crusader costumes worn by English fans ”provocative”.

Some England fans are known to dress up as Saint George, the patron saint of England, when attending sporting events.
The standard is to wear a costume reminiscent of a helmet and chainmail, with a cross-shaped garment, and holding a plastic sword.

FIFA told CNN that ”wearing a crusader costume in a setting in the Arab region or the Middle East could be viewed as provocative by Muslims.”
For this reason, anti-discrimination officials asked fans to turn their costumes inside out or change their clothes.”
