Meiji, a major food company, is promoting efforts to utilize the skins of cacao beans, which are the raw materials for its main product chocolate.
This time, we discovered for the first time that unused cacao peel contains ceramide, which is used as a skin care ingredient.
Demand for ceramides is expanding as a beauty ingredient along with collagen and hyaluronic acid, and the global market size is expected to be 95.1 billion yen by 2032.
It is estimated that approximately 500,000 tons of cacao husks are produced annually around the world, and most of it is not used effectively.
In addition to introducing chocolate made with ceramide extracted from cacao during the Valentine’s Day sales campaign, Meiji also plans to use it as an ingredient in cosmetics in the future.
