The Minister of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries visits the Tsukiji Market in appeal to ASEAN ambassadors to buy more seafood products.

Minister Sakamoto, the Minister of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries, visited Tokyo’s Tsukiji Market with ambassadors from ASEAN, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, and promoted Japanese seafood products.
Minister Sakamoto visited the Tsukiji Market with ambassadors from three countries, including Vietnam and Thailand, which have significant exports of seafood among ASEAN member states, on the morning of the 19th.
They observed the auction process and sampled Hokkaido scallops - affected by China’s ongoing import restrictions on Japanese seafood- as well as amberjack from the Noto Peninsula, which was affected by the earthquake in Hokuriku.
Minister Sakamoto aims to link this initiative to (his broader goal of) diversifying export destinations.
