Life-sized elephant robot installed in Indian temple hopes to prevent abuse at religious events

In the southern state of Kerala, India, a full-sized elephant robot will appear in temple ceremonies to replace real elephants.

The 3.2-meter-tall life-size robot was donated by the animal protection group PETA India.
In the announcement, the group appeals that it can safely perform rituals without animal cruelty.

PETA points out that the elephants are subjected to harsh treatment, such as being beaten with weapons with metal crochet hooks.
