Unaccounted for in Maui wildfires plummets to 66; tourism resumes in western part of the island
甚大な被害が生じた米ハワイ州マウイ島の大規模な山火事でグリーン同州知事は８日、行方不明者は計６６人と大幅に減少したと報告した
Governor Green reported on the 8th that the number of missing people has significantly decreased to 66 people due to the massive wildfires that caused severe damage on the island of Maui, Hawaii.

行方不明者は当初、３０００人余とも想定されたが、先週には３８５人に落ち込んでいた
The number of missing people was initially estimated to be over 3,000, but that number had dropped to 385 last week.
The number of victims remains unchanged at 115.
行方不明者の捜索や犠牲者の身元確認の作業は続いており、知事は家族らに対し行方不明者に関する情報を警察などへ寄せるよう促した
Searches for the missing persons and identification of the victims continue, and the governor urged families to submit information about the missing persons to police and other authorities.
知事は、主要な被災地となったラハイナなどがある同島西部への訪問客の受け入れを来月８日から始め、全ての渡航規制も解除する方針を示した
The governor announced that the western part of the island, which includes Lahaina, which was a major disaster area, will begin accepting visitors from the 8th of next month, and will also lift all travel restrictions.
グリーン氏は、１１５人の犠牲者が出ており、悲しみに打ちひしがれていることに変わりはないが、死者数は８００人あるいは１０００人ともした当初の予想を踏まえれば感謝すべき事柄であろうとも話した
Mr. Greene said he remains heartbroken over the death toll of 115 people, but given the initial prediction that the death toll would be as high as 800 or 1,000, it is something to be grateful for. I also talked to deaf people.
８月８日に発生した山火事については司法当局に「包括的な再調査」を進めるよう求めたとした
He called on the judicial authorities to proceed with a ”comprehensive re-investigation” into the wildfires that broke out on August 8th.
The island’s administrative authorities have faced criticism that they could have taken more appropriate measures, including warning residents, as the fire spread.
