Torokashi Grass
昔ある所に清兵衛（せいべえ）というきこりがおった
Once upon a time, there was a woodcutter namely Seibee.
清兵衛が木を切っていたら、旅人がうわばみに襲われているところを見つけた
One day, when he was collecting the woods he found a traveller was getting attacked by a giant snake.
Because he can’t able to do anything he just climbs a tree and looking the situation. The traveller man was completely swallowed by the giant snake.
旅人を飲み込んだうわばみは腹がふくれて苦しいくなり、何やら黄色い草を食べ始めた
The woodcutter saw the snake can’t able to move freely and having a hard time because of the full stomach. And the snake started eating the yellow grass leaf from around.
Suddenly, the snake body become slim and go back to the tall grass with refreshingly.
The woodcutter went back to the village and tell villagers about this case.
But he didn’t tell anyone about the yellow grass leaf.
まあ命拾いしたお祝でもしようかと、その夜村人は清兵衛の家に集まった
AAt the night, the villagers came to the woodcutter house to celebrate for his escape from near death.
From among the villagers, a wealthy man challenges the woodcutter ”if you can eat 5 bows of Soba at in one time I will give you a paddle field.”
Seibei(the woodcutter) accept the challenge because he remembered about the yellow leaf. However he can’t eat anymore after 3 cups of Soba.
And he went to the toilet and ate the leaf.
だが、いつまでたっても清兵衛は戻ってこない
However, he didn’t come back to the house.
The villagers started worrying and find him. They found only his clothes.
The yellow leaf don’t digest everything. It digest only the human meat.
