37 years after the plane crash, families climb the mountain to pray
1985年8月12日、日本航空の飛行機が群馬県上野村の山の中に落ちました
On August 12, 1985, a Japan Airlines plane crashed into the mountains of Ueno Village, Gunma Prefecture.
There were people returning to their hometowns for the Obon festival, and 520 people, the most common in Japanese plane accidents, died.
事故から37年の12日、亡くなった人の家族などが事故があった山に登りました
On the 12th, 37 years after the accident, the family members of the deceased climbed the mountain where the accident occurred.
Due to concerns about the spread of the new coronavirus in villages and other places, this year as well as last year, only family members and related people were allowed to climb.

Yumiko Kobayashi, who lost her younger brother Hiroyuki Kato at the age of 21, said, ”When I come to this place, my year ends, and when I go down the mountain, another year begins.
My younger brother, who wanted to make people laugh, often said, ”Always keep smiling.”
When I get off the mountain, I’m sad, but I’ll try not to cry, smile, and do my best for another year.”
