Naming rights to baby gibbon to be auctioned at U.S. zoo
米バージニア動物園で生まれたフクロテナガザルの赤ちゃんに名前を付ける権利が、１９日までオークションにかけられています
The right to name a baby gibbon born at the Virginia Zoo is being auctioned until 19th.
同園によると、赤ちゃんは６月２６日、雌の「マラナ」と雄の「バリ」の間に生まれした
According to the zoo, the baby was born on June 26 between a female, Marana, and a male, Bali.
母親との愛着経験を築きながらすくすく育ち、手を伸ばしたり、自分の手や指を不思議そうに眺めたりする様子がみられるということです
It is said that they grow up quickly while building attachment experiences with their mothers, and can be seen reaching out and staring at their own hands and fingers curiously.
性別はまだ分からないため、動物園側は「男女の区別がない中立的な名前」を希望しています
Since the gender is not yet known, the zoo wants a ``neutral name that does not distinguish between men and women’’
Proceeds from the auction go to the zoo’s animal welfare fund
