Katsushika Ward: Free school trip money for junior high schools
At a municipal junior high school in Katsushika Ward, Tokyo, third-year students go on a two-night school trip to places such as Kyoto and Nara.
According to the ward, the cost of transportation, hotels, etc. used to be around 70,000 yen per person.
However, due to rising prices of goods, it is likely to be around 80,000 yen in 2025.
The ward has decided to make school trips free of charge starting in 2025.
The district pays the money on behalf of the student’s family.
We are planning to spend about 230 million yen in total.
According to the ward, this is the first time in Tokyo’s 23 wards that school trips are free of charge.
