American NASA rover records the sound of a Mars dust devil for the first time
火星の塵がつむじ風に巻き上げられ、太古の湖の地を探査する米航空宇宙局（ＮＡＳＡ）の火星探査車「パーサビアランス」の上空を吹き抜けました
A whirlwind on Mars blew through the sky right above “Perseverance,” a National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) probe that was investigating the earth at an ancient lakebed.
Using a microphone that the rover was equipped with, the sound of a Mars dust devil was recorded for the first time.
塵旋風は火星の気象パターンの一部で、頻繁に発生します
Dust devils are a part of Mars’ weather patterns, and they frequently occur.
Up until now, pictures and weather data were collected, dust measurements were performed, and NASA’s Mars rover “Insight” also recorded seismic and magnetic signals generated by dust devils.
However, until this recording, the only thing that was missing was the sound.

Perseverance, which landed on Mars in February of 2021, brought a microphone to Mars for the first time.
同年９月２７日、塵旋風が真上を通過した時に、たまたまマイクのスイッチが入っていたことから音声が収録できました
That same year on September 27th, while a dust devil was passing directly overhead, the sound was recorded because the microphone was switched on by chance.
This research was presented on the 13th in the scientific journal Nature Communications.
