Turkmenistans president decided the closure of the « gates of hell »
中央アジアのトルクメニスタンで数十年前から燃え続ける天然ガス田、通称「地獄の門」について、ベルドイムハメドフ大統領が閉鎖を指示していることが分かりました
It is understood that the president Beldoimuhamedofi has decided to put out the fire of the natural gas field, called the gates of hell, which was continuously burning for many years in Turkmenistan situated in Middle Asia.
「地獄の門」は、地名を取って「ダルバザの穴」と名付けられています
The gates of hell was the name given to the place locally called « derwish hole ».
In the beginnings of the 1970’s, during surveys for gas of the former Soviet Union, by caving in of rocks a big hole opened up, natural gas coming out was put on fire, in order to prevent diffusion, and this fire continued to burn.
同国の代表的な観光名所として知られるようになりましたが、近隣住民の健康被害や、貴重な収入源である天然ガス資源の無駄遣い、環境への負荷を考慮して、ベルドイムハメドフ氏が閉鎖の方針を決めました
The policy of closure was decided by Mister Belidoimuhamumadofi, pointing to the burden for the environment, the wasting income from the resources of natural gas, the health issues for the local people, concerning this place which has become known as a tourist attraction of the country.
