Astellas Pharma employee detained in China holds first trial in Beijing in late November

It has been learned that the first trial of a Japanese employee of Astellas Pharma, who was arrested in Beijing last March and charged with violating anti-espionage laws, was held in late November.
According to sources related to Japan and China, the first trial was held at the Second Intermediate People’s Court in Beijing in late November.
There was a notification from the Chinese authorities, and the hearing was held in private.
Furthermore, on the 5th of this month, Ambassador Kenji Kanasugi had his first consular meeting with the Japanese employee who was indicted after his first trial, and it is said that he is in good health.
The Japanese side says, ``We will continue to strongly urge the Chinese side to share our country’s position, including early release.’’
