Ig Nobel Prize: “Pigs breathe through their butts”

「イグ・ノーベル賞しょう」は、アメリカの科学かがく雑誌ざっしが1991年ねんから面白おもしろい研究けんきゅうを選えらんで贈おくっている賞しょうです

The Ig Nobel Prize is an award given by an American scientific magazine to selected interesting research since 1991.

今年ことしは、日本にっぽんの大学だいがくで教授きょうじゅをしている武部たけべ貴則たかのりさんたちの研究けんきゅうチームが選えらばれました

This year, the research team led by Takanori Takebe, a professor at a Japanese university, was selected.

研究けんきゅうチームは、呼吸こきゅうすることが難むずかしくなった豚ぶたなどの動物どうぶつのお尻しりから、濃こい酸素さんそが入はいっている液体えきたいを入いれる実験じっけんをしました

The research team conducted an experiment in which they injected oxygen-rich fluid into the butts of pigs and other animals that had difficulty breathing.

その結果けっか、どの動物どうぶつでも血液けつえきの中なかの酸素さんそが増ふえて、特とくに豚ぶたは呼吸こきゅうがよくなりました

As a result, all animals had more oxygen in their blood, and pigs in particular were able to breathe better.

この研究けんきゅうを選えらんだ人ひとは「多おおくの哺乳類ほにゅうるいにお尻しりで呼吸こきゅうする力ちからがあるということがわかりました」と言いっています

People who chose this study say, ``We now know that many mammals have the ability to breathe through their butts.’’

武部たけべさんは「変へんなことをしていても大丈夫だいじょうぶだと言いってもらった気持きもちです

Takebe said, ``I feel like I was told that it’s okay to do strange things.’’

これからも人ひとと違ちがうことを考かんがえて研究けんきゅうしていきたいです」と話はなしました

I want to continue researching things that are different from others.”
