Supporting corporate decarbonization with a new ”forest fund”
Sumitomo Forestry announced the launch of a forest fund.
The scale of the fund is 100 billion yen, and they aim to own and manage 500,000 hectares of forests in Southeast Asia and North America by 2030 with the collected funds.
In efforts toward decarbonization, the use of ”carbon offset”, which offsets carbon dioxide emissions by the amount absorbed by forests, is spreading, but forests are declining worldwide, and conservation and expansion are becoming a challenge.
Sumitomo Forestry wants to connect the carbon offset to the companies that invested this fund.
