JR East plans to use hydrogen-powered trains from 2030
JR東日本は、自動車を作っている会社などと一緒に、日本で初めて水素を使って走る電車を作りました
JR East, together with a company that makes automobiles, made the first train in Japan that runs on hydrogen.
This train produces electricity from hydrogen in a tank on the roof and the oxygen in the air.
It does not emit carbon dioxide when running

In Japan, there are cars and buses that run on electricity made from hydrogen, but there are no trains yet.
JR East will test this train on railroad tracks in Kanagawa prefecture for over a year from the end of next month.
