In China’s Sichuan Province, the intense heat has caused a tight supply and demand for electricity, affecting the operations of major global companies such as Toyota Motor Corporation.
In the inland province of Sichuan, the supply and demand for electricity is tight due to an increase in electricity demand due to extreme heat and a decrease in the amount of electricity generated by hydroelectric power plants due to drought.
In response, the Sichuan provincial government ordered local businesses to suspend factory operations for six days from the 15th in order to secure electricity for ordinary households.
According to Chinese media, factories such as Toyota Motor Corporation, CATL, the world’s largest EV battery manufacturer, and Foxconn, which produces Apple products, have stopped operating.
The local power company has announced that it will implement rolling blackouts for ordinary households if the situation does not improve in the future.
