Japan-China senior officials hold talks in China for 7 hours over Taiwan issue

Takeo Akiba, Director-General of the National Security Agency, and Yang Jiechi, a member of the Politburo, China’s top diplomat, met in Tianjin, China, and discussed issues such as Taiwan.
The meeting was held at the invitation of the Chinese side and lasted approximately seven hours.
It is believed that the Japanese side expressed concerns about military training around Taiwan and protested against the fact that a ballistic missile launched by China fell into Japan’s exclusive economic zone.
In response, the Chinese side emphasized that ”Taiwan is an inseparable part of China’s territory, and Japan should correctly recognize China’s position.”
He touched on the 50th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations between Japan and China next month, and said, ”Peaceful coexistence and friendly cooperation are the only correct choices for bilateral relations.”
