全国有数のスイカの産地・千葉県富里市でスイカロードレースが行われました。　
The watermelon race was held in Tomisato city, Chiba prefecture, one of the country's leading watermelon producing regions.
スイカが好きなだけ食べられることで知られるこの大会。
This contest is known for allowing you to eat as much watermelon as you want.
去年は熱中症になる選手が続出したことから、今年はレースの距離を10キロメートルから7キロメートルに短縮しての開催となりました。　
Last year, some athletes suffered from heat stroke, so this year the race distance was shortened from 10 km to 7 km.
レースにはおよそ6000人のランナーが参加し、全身スイカの格好をしたり、仲間とおそろいのスイカウェアで走ったりしてレースを楽しみます。　
About 6,000 runners participate in the race and enjoy the race by dressing up from head to toe like watermelons or running with friends dressed like watermelons.
また、コースには給水所ならぬ「給スイカ所」が置かれ、大量のスイカがランナー達に振る舞われました。
Additionally, a "watermelon station" was placed along the course and large amounts of watermelon were served to the runners.

この大会で用意したスイカの数は1500玉以上で、ランナーたちは両手に持ったスイカを口いっぱいに頬張り、甘い初夏の味覚を味わいながらゴールを目指して走っていました。
More than 1,500 watermelons were prepared for this event, which athletes held in their hands and stuffed into their mouths, enjoying the sweet taste of early summer as they ran to the finish line.
