A competition to enjoy and pick up garbage like a sport
香川県高松市で、まちや海の中のごみを少なくするために11日、ごみを拾う大会がありました
In Takamatsu City, Kagawa Prefecture, there was a competition to pick up garbage on the 11th to reduce garbage in the city and the sea.
About 40 people from 14 groups, including families and high school students, participated.

The group picks up litter on the road for 1 hour.
Points are determined based on the type and weight of garbage, and the competition is like a sport.

We collected 60 kg of garbage in one hour, such as cigarettes and chewing gum paper that we had finished smoking.
The winner was a group of university students who picked up more than 17kg of garbage.
One of the participants said, ”I was surprised that there was more garbage than I expected.”
According to the organization that held the competition, about 4,500 tons of garbage are found in the Seto Inland Sea in a year.
More than 60% of this is said to be garbage that flowed from towns and other places.
