One year since Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant began discharging treated water into the sea
At Tokyo Electric Power Company’s Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant, water treated with radioactive materials has accumulated after the 2011 accident.
On August 24th of last year, TEPCO began pouring seawater into treated water to dilute it and release it into the ocean.
China has stopped importing fish and shellfish from Japan as it opposes discharging treated water into the sea.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, exports of marine products from September last year to June this year were 16.9% lower than the previous year.
Many scallops were exported to China.
For this reason, scallop companies are looking for countries other than China to export.
A group of fishermen says, ``We are suffering great damage because we are unable to export to China.’’
