From the 1st of next month, the New Zealand government will raise the International Tourism Tax (IVL) imposed on foreign tourists to NZ$100 (approximately 9,030 yen), nearly three times the current rate.

Tourism Secretary Dorsey said in a statement that welcoming foreign tourists comes with costs, including strain on local infrastructure and the cost of maintaining environmental resources.
