China visa fees reduced by 25% across the board to encourage visits to China

China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced a policy of reducing visa fees required for travel by 25% across the board in order to ”promote people-to-people exchanges between China and foreign countries.”
On the 8th, the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that the fees for obtaining a Chinese visa will be reduced by 25% across the board from the 11th of this month until the end of next year.
``This is a temporary measure to promote people-to-people exchanges between China and foreign countries.’’
Additionally, on the 24th of last month, we began offering visa exemption measures for six countries including Germany, France, and Malaysia.
According to China’s Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the number of overseas travelers accepted by Chinese travel agencies in the first half of 2023 was approximately 480,000, a sharp decrease to about 1/18th compared to 2019.
Behind these measures, it seems that there is an aim to recover the number of tourists from overseas.
On the other hand, on Chinese social media, there are opinions such as ``The reason people don’t come to China is not because they can’t pay the visa fee.’’
