The University of Tokyo Plans to appoint about 300 female professors and associate professors

The University of Tokyo wants to increase the ratio of female teachers to 25% or more, but it was around 16% in May this year.
For this reason, the University of Tokyo plans to appoint 141 new female professors and 165 new associate professors by the 2027 academic year.
This is the first time that the University of Tokyo has appointed such a large number of women as professors.
The University of Tokyo says, ``I would like to renew the university with people of various ways of thinking and help female researchers grow.’’
According to an OECD survey in 2020, the average percentage of women among teachers working at universities and other institutions was about 45%, compared to about 30% in Japan.
