Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine in Kamakura, an event to pray to avoid getting sick
15日、神奈川県鎌倉市にある神社の鶴岡八幡宮で「左義長」という行事がありました
On the 15th, an event called ”Sagicho” was held at Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine in Kamakura City, Kanagawa Prefecture.
We burn the things we decorated for the gods on New Year’s Day and pray that we won’t get sick.
At the shrine, we collected shimenawa and kadomatsu that were used to decorate houses, etc., and made them about 4 meters high.
After the people at the shrine said their prayers, they lit a fire.
この火で体を温かくすると、若くなるとか病気にならないと言われています
It is said that warming your body with this fire will make you younger and prevent you from getting sick.
Those who came put their hands before the fire and prayed that they would not get sick this year.
男性は「今年は正月に地震など大変なことがあったので、人との関係を大切にしたいです」と話しました
The man said, ``This year, there were some terrible things like an earthquake during New Year’s, so I want to cherish my relationships with people.’’
小学校の男の子は「みんなが元気で、もっと仲よしになったらいいなと思います」と話しました
An elementary school boy said, ``I hope everyone is doing well and getting along better.’’
