Exact figures of branches closing or staff being dismissed have yet to be announced.
For 2 years now, Godiva has largely been expanding their cafe business.
It was announced they wanted to open 2000 branches worldwide. The first branch was opened in New York City in April 2019. Godiva planned to open a further 10 branches in NYC, totalling over 400 branches in North America.
However this plan did not come to fruition.
Godiva had been depending on foot traffic in shopping malls, however numbers were declining. Sales are now dependent on online sales and supermarket partnerships.
