Found a hibernating bear under the garden deck, and decided to leave it alone

A hibernating bear was recently found under a deck in the backyard of a private home in Plainville, Connecticut.
According to Tyler Dashkewich, who was interviewed, the brothers and their girlfriend were walking their dog when they saw it a little frightened.
”Then, when I looked under the deck, there was a bear.”
“I couldn’t believe it,” recalls Dashkewich.
The family contacted the state’s Energy and Environmental Protection Agency for advice, and was told it was probably a male black bear and could be left alone until it hibernated.
According to the conservation group ”Finger Lake Land Trust”, male black bears usually hibernate from mid-December and resume activity in mid-March.
The authorities said they could throw hot water on it to get rid of it, but the Dashkewich family plans to leave the bear alone until it finishes hibernating.
