As demand for online supermarkets expands, distribution giant Aeon has launched a new online supermarket service that utilizes AI (artificial intelligence) and robots.
The service, which began on the 10th in parts of Tokyo and Chiba, delivers approximately 20,000 items, including food, daily necessities, and pharmaceuticals, from distribution centers to homes.
When an order is placed on the Internet, approximately 1,000 AI-controlled robots transport the product from the storage area to the employees who pack it.
”This means that about 50 items can be transported in 6 minutes.”
AI will also calculate the optimal route for deliveries, and more deliveries will be possible even during times when deliveries are concentrated.
Demand for online supermarkets has surged, and retailers are opening logistics bases.
The size of the online supermarket market is expected to exceed 300 billion yen.
