東日本大震災によって海底にできた断層の崖を世界で初めて発見した共同研究グループが会見を開き、「災害予測の精度高度化に貢献できれば」と期待を寄せました。　
The world's first joint research team to discover a fault cliff formed under the sea during the Great East Japan Earthquake held a press conference and expressed hope that the accuracy of disaster prediction can be improved.
新潟大学の植田勇人准教授らはこれまで調査されてこなかった宮城県沖の深海を水深1万1000メートルまで潜航可能な有人潜水艇で観察・記録しました。　
Associate Professor Hayato Ueda of Niigata University and colleagues used a manned submersible to observe and record the deep sea off Miyagi Prefecture, which has not been studied until now, at a depth of 11,000 meters.
その結果、東日本大震災で生じた高さ26メートルにもなる断層の崖の発見に世界で始めて成功しました。
As a result, they were the first people in the world to successfully explore the 26-meter high fault cliff caused by the Great East Japan Earthquake.
「これは記録しなきゃっていう感じで。えらいものを見てしまったな。シミュレーションの精度を高めていくことに貢献できるのでは」

植田准教授らは「今後、有人潜水艇を活用した調査研究が一層進むことを期待する」と語りました。
