Japan's first large-scale land-based Atlantic salmon farming facility, which is popular for making sushi and sashimi, has been completed in Shizuoka Prefecture and has begun full operations.
静岡県小山町の敷地5.7ヘクタールに完成したのは、ノルウェーの「プロキシマー・シーフード」による日本で初めてのアトランティックサーモン養殖施設です。　
This facility, built on a 5.7-hectare plot of land in Oyama town, Shizuoka Prefecture, is Japan's first Atlantic salmon farming facility, operated by Norway's Proximer Seafoods.
今月中旬、幼魚の第一陣が大型水槽に移され、4キロから5キロまで育てる作業が始まりました。　
In the middle of this month, the first batch of fry were transferred to a large aquarium and work to grow them from 4kg to 5kg.
富士山の水資源を生かした人工海水を使用して水温や水質を管理し、安定した生産が見込めるということです。　
This means that stable production can be achieved by controlling water temperature and water quality with artificial seawater utilizing the water resources of Mount Fuji.
すしや刺し身で人気のアトランティックサーモンは、国内の消費が伸びていて、この施設からは大手商社・丸紅を通じ、来年度まず2500トンが秋口から出荷される予定です。
Domestic consumption of Atlantic salmon, popular for sushi and sashimi, is growing and 2,500 tonnes of salmon will be shipped from the facility via major trading company Marubeni from early autumn next year.
